The offshore in South Africa happens to be one of the most promising hotspots for the exploration drilling of oil and gas this year. Now, this has yielded a huge find for natural gas and condensation. Thus, it could open up a new province for exploring oil majors and hence change the fortunes of energy in South Africa. This week, the major of France, Total said that it had come up with a significant discovery on the Brulpadda prospects. The Senior Vice President Exploration at Total, Kevin McLachlan said that, through this discovery, Total has opened up a whole new gas and oil play of world-class nature. Plus, it is very well positioned to test out several prospects for following on at the same block.
As per the Chief Executive of Total, Patrick Pouyanne, this discovery could hold 1 billion barrels of oil equivalent of gas and resources related to condensation. Total is the operator of the license along with its partners, Qatar Petroleum, CSR International and a South African consortium, Main Street. It has got plans of acquiring 3D seismic data during this year. This would be followed by almost up to four wells of exploration on the license. As per the African Energy Chamber, this particular discovery can change the whole dynamics of the economy of South Africa.
Recently, the offshore regions in the African continent have seen increasing interest from oil and gas majors. They are willing to explore, what they feel is the next hotspot for exploration in the world. The major deep water discovery from Total in offshore South Africa is now presenting a possible new wave of majors drilling in the region. It carries the hope of finding the next discovery of billion barrels.
